The ultimate Iceland Expedition for the adventurous

The interior of Iceland during winter is a minimalist playground of black brush strokes against a white canvas, where the edges of mountains are fleetingly visible during frequent snow storms.

You need to possess a flexible attitude and positive outlook to embrace this real adventure into the interior. There are 4 nights where we will be in remote mountain cabins with limited facilities (please read the Prerequisite box to the right for more details).

Small group size of 5

This trip is for five participants. We will be split into two Nissan Patrols with two drivers/guides plus myself. The landscape is vast, empty and wild. It is like nothing else you will witness in Iceland.

Required Fitness

Easy to Demanding

Most of the time we will shoot near the car. There are no hikes involved (unless you choose to go farther afield from the car) but sometimes moving around in the deep snow may be challenging.

If you are of reasonable fitness and have good mobility this trip will be fine for you, but it It is perhaps not suitable for those who have bad knees or leg problems.

Packing light

For 4 nights of the tour, we will be in remote mountain cabins. To travel in there, the vehicles need to be as light as possible. So I'd recommend bringing a spare duffel bag that you can pack just the essentials into for the 4 nights, while leaving the rest of your luggage behind.

Prerequisites

Due to the remote areas we will be visiting, our accommodation and food options are limited. Therefore, to get the most out of this expedition style tour, you need to be a good team contributor by helping out with chores. You also need to be very flexible with regards to the accommodation and food options that are on offer.

Team player & contributor
You need to be willing to get involved with the expedition by helping shovel snow, unloading and loading the vehicles and doing household chores such as washing dishes / helping with the preparation of meals.

Accommodation
For 4 nights of the tour we will be staying in basic mountain cabins that may take some time to heat up. You will be sharing sleeping quarters with others in an open room (ear plugs recommended).

Diet
During our time in the mountain cabins, food options will be limited to what our guide has brought in with us. This trip is not suitable for those with severe dietary restrictions or food allergies. Vegetarian, gluten free or diabetic options will not be available. You need to be flexible and able to eat most things.

Bathroom Facilities
During our time in the mountain cabins, there are no showering or bathing facilities. The toilet is also situated in an outhouse and has no running water.

Sleeping Materials
Please bring your own winter sleeping bag. You should bring one that is comfortable below freezing.
